A Coast To Coast Walk, July 2010

Fell walking legend Alfred Wainwright created the Coast to Coast, now the most popular and entirely unofficial walking route in the UK. We walked it in the summer of 2010.

If, for any reason, you can’t see the slideshow, pop over to flickr and view them there.

One week ago we were planning to do the Coast to Coast on Sept 13 when I discovered that National Geographic Adventures had not only cut 192 down to 130 miles, they planned to stay several nights at the same inn by shuttling walkers back: Horrors. So I got your book and took your walk and loved your journal! Rated it 5 stars. Pictures look wonderful. Loved your description of civilization shock. Particular interest that you tolerated the steam heat on in August, we are Americans, not pushy, but we would have asked. Had the reverse happen in the Quinalt Rain Forest in Olymipcs (NW) the manager came up to our roof top room and tinkered to get it to work. Would love to walk and walk for 2 weeks with places to stay! But in the SW we can hike for a whole day without seeing anyone, no where to stay.
Many thanks for sharing your well written walk. Your Catherine is an elusive character who somehow wins the heart as one of the great characters in literature, and seeing her picture at the end confirmed this image! Holly Emmerich, Arizona
