A Most Impressive Cairn

Cairn on the Devil's Staircase. Glencoe

If there was an award for “Most Impressive Cairn Seen Whilst Out Walking”, this one would surely be a contender. And I’ve seen some most impressive cairns over the years.

An exercise in balancing, I spotted it on the West Highland Way, on the Devil’s Staircase on the section between Kingshouse and Kinlochleven. Somehow I suspect it was a very short-lived cairn. All it would need would be some very strong winds and it would have been gone forever. Or perhaps someone just tripping up over it and knocking it over.

So if you’re out on the West Highland Way, by all means keep your eyes open for it but don’t be surprised if you don’t spot it. For I suspect it really has long gone.
