The Rambling Man Summer Break

So if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll have noticed something substantial in my London LOOP epilogue. Namely that as a family, we’ve moved out of London and off to Manchester.

It’s a big change in our lives, although one that gets us a lot closer to the wonderful hills of the Lakes and the Peak District.

But relocating means moving house. And that’s a lot of work, stress and hassle. All those forms to fill in, boxes to unpack, rooms to paint and so on.

Thank goodness then that we weren’t moving house and doing anything else stressful and time consuming at the same time! Like, oh, I don’t know, having a second child perhaps?

Err, okay, yes, that’s happened too. Two of the most stressful things you can do in your life, happening at the same time. But don’t worry, we didn’t attempt the third (getting married), and I haven’t changed jobs in all this, so at least some things are constant.

Anyway, the result of all this is that I really haven’t had much time either going out on great walks, which means I haven’t had much to write about.

As it happens, I had quite a backlog of content stacked up ready for publication, and that’s been keeping the site going for the last few months whilst all these major changes happen in my life. But the upshot is now that I’m running a little low.

I have stuff in the pipeline – earlier this year I finally managed to finish the Thames Path for example – but everything needs editing and sorting out, and I need a little time to try and get everything back on track.

All of which is a long winded way of saying that Rambling Man’s going to be a bit quiet over the summer, but will be back with a vengeance in the autumn. It’s going to be awesome, I promise.

See you on the other side.

I have returned again and again to your website, and have been encouraged too by Catherine, in the guise of London hiker. Congratulations on the birth of your second child, and on the move out of London. I hope it doesn’t all prove too stressful, and that you can both get out there walking before too long. Oh, and I’ve just sent you the price of a pint. Seems a small price to pay for so much information and expertise!

Thanks Anne! Don’t know about stress, but there is just so much to do! Bring on the day when everything’s back to normal.

Hi Andrew,
Congratulations on your second child. Like Anne I return to your site over and over. Last year we walked the coast to coast and have just completed the Pennine way. Challenging but loved it.
Let me tell you there is no hurry to do these walks, you have the rest of your life. we are about to turn 60 and only took up these long distance walks when out children flew the next.
Enjoy your family.
Thinking about offer’s Dyke. Any suggestions?

Thanks Maria – the walking won’t stop, that’s for sure. Offa’s Dyke is on my hitlist as I love that part of the world. Can’t tell you much about it though.

Have your say
