(Not quite) the Coledale Horseshoe

The Coledale Horseshoe. A classic round, visiting the fells that surround the Coledale valley. Majestic, wondrous, a delight. Not to be missed.

Assuming you go in decent weather that is.

And if you don't, well things may not go entirely to plan.

Walked on 24 October 2018.

Route: Braithwaite → Grisedale Pike → Hopegill Head → Outerside → Barrow → Braithwaite

Grisedale Pike

A stunning fell with some amazing views from its 791m high summit. Or so I am told.

Hopegill Head

Not necessarily on the Coledale Horseshoe, but in bad weather, definitely worth a visit.

Wainwright believed the view to lack charm. But at least there was a view for us to see.

A grand place for settling down and getting the old pipe out for an hour’s quiet meditation. Except during the school holidays.
