The Thames Path: A better ending?
Published 30 March 2016
At its eastern end, the Thames Path National Trail finishes next to the mighty metallic wonder of the Thames Barrier, not far from Woolwich.
But is there a better place that this mighty long distance trail to end? Well the Thames Path Extension seems to think so. But does this ten mile walk further downstream make for a better ending to the Thames Path? There’s only one way to find out…

Better place to start Thames path? I started at foulness island. Across the Broomway path from Great Wakering steps. You walk across the mud of the Thames estuary. When the tide is out!!

Yes we walked the Thames Path extension. Was it worth it? Well we can now say we walked it! Loved the estuary wildlife but I felt the whiff from the Thames Water sewage works mixed with the sweet smell from the Tate and Lyle factory on the opposite bank was a smell too far and the last mile or so through the Erith trading estate was not pretty. Walked on to Slade Green station at the end rather than return to Erith but it is not so well signposted. Locals were very friendly though.
Have your say
