The setting sun behind Dufton’s trees
Published 30 October 2011

Throughout October I’ve been doing sunsets in A Sunday Picture and here’s the final one.
It was taken in October 2007 when we walked the Pennine Way between Horton-in-Ribblesdale and Dufton.
The final day saw us doing 20 miles to Dufton from Middleton-in-Teesdale which was hard enough but compounded by the fact that we knew the sun would begin to get dark early.
We set off as early as we could but still it was a difficult slog of a day as we attempted to ensure we wouldn’t get benighted but somehow we arrived at Dufton at 6pm just as the light was fading.
But as we did that last mile or so, we were treated to some amazing lighting. The way the setting sun played with the dark clouds ahead of us, well it was stunning. Stunning indeed.
Have your say
