When in the Lake District, is there a finer way to end your walk than a trip on an open top bus? I’m really not sure there is.

If you fancy it yourself, the open toppers ply their trade between Grasmere and Bowness this year until 3 November. You’d better be quick, and probably wrap up warmly. But it’s certainly worth doing.

There’s something magical about being on an open topper as it races down the Lakes’s winding roads. It puts a smile on the face of everyone who sits on the top deck. Unless it’s raining anyway.

But then, it never rains in the Lake District. Oh no. Never.
