Heavy cloud on Great Shunner Fell

After spending lots of time climbing a fell, there can be no better experience than finding it doused in cloud with nothing to see.

For some reason the Pennine Way is just perfect for such experiences, especially if you walk it in spring or autumn. That’s why this Sunday picture is from that route.

Taken in October 2007 this is the view at Great Shunner Fell which lies between the Tan Hill Inn and Middleton-in-Teesdale.

And as you can see, when it comes to views, this one really was superb.

If you know someone who always gets to see the best views, why not give them a copy of Great Views We Have Seen, the original celebration of classic scenery from Britain’s hills. Printed on lovely paper, this wonderful coffee table book is available now for £18.99.
